The premier handed over the South African flag to Kekana's wife Ntsiki and broached "you saw the ceremonial handing over of the flag in fact that flag handing ceremony portrays a situation where you're symbolizing a person. You are glorifying, fantasying a person. Saying this person has a special relationship with government because of what he did for the community. So that's why you saw us giving them that flag."

Paledi Malatji Representative of the band denominated "to be truthful as a piano player, producer of Steve Kekana, I have lost everything basically. We are paralyzed, the band is honestly paralyzed remember Dr Kekana was their firm, it's where people worked. They could feed their family when they worked with the legend so as he is no more, it's not going to be easy to strategize but we thank the legacy he has left us, because he left us with songs that no one has in the world except us and he left us with lessons that no one was going to teach us has he not being here."
