The Polokwane Basketball Academy is the new baby in the sporting fields of Polokwane,as the motivation of the academy "is the importance of bringing quality basketball to the people of Limpopo and around the world.The Senior Sunday games project is the 1st project since its birth,the games were to bring back the senior basketball action in order to revive the spirit in the province",said the secretary of the Academy Koketso Mabotja.


The first play-offs started on the 6 December,as they wanted to end the season on a high note,yet the finals participated on the 20th December last Sunday.The teams that took part are 4women and 8 men namely:

#WOMEN: Seshego Sonics,MSD Wolves,Solomondale Pacers and Mokopane Cheetahs
#MEN: Mokopane Cheetahs, Solomondale Pacers, Dream Team,MSD Wolves A&B, Polokwane Hawks,Seshego Sonics and Polokwane Ballaholics.



During the play-offs 4 players experienced minor scratches and they were able to play during the play-offs and even on the finals.The players that experienced minor injuries are:
Makwena  Komape- MSD Wolves
Vladimir Sefala- Dream Team
Joe Langa- Polokwane Hawks
Mabotja Mpho- MSD Wolves

The game between MSD Wolves and Dream Team was flowing like a murmuration where the man defense, rebounding and offense was amazing but Dream Team decided to take high percentage shots to defeat MSD Wolves

Seshego Sonics used anticipating skill to improve their chances to be the champions against MSD Wolves as their defense, rebounding and offense was of good skill unfortunately their shots couldn't make them the champions.

Hinted that there was no player who got injured during the play-offs.He mentioned that winning the championship they had massive "team work" and "the girls took instructions seriously.
I managed to read the game & make a good set play to score more points for us to win".He loved the experience even though it was a bit challenging for them as " we didn't have enough time to practice for the play-offs due to the pandemic",he said.Lastly said that they are happy with the win.

They loved the whole season of the Basketball,eventhough some players took some time off from the squad due to studies,they also managed to put together the squad to ensure that they are stronger than before.One thing that broke them was the mere fact of being mocked.

Expressed the SSP experience as extraordinary because they had an opportunity to build their team spirit & they had a chance to know how people feel about them.
Dream Team being the champions of the 1st SSP league they will be written in the books of history,Eddie added by saying " we proved alot of people that we as Dream Team we have transformed into something big..."His closing words were "as a captain I am proud of my team,no matter how hard it was we pulled through till the end."

The young man who is 21 years studying Public Administration at University of Limpopo from Mpumalanga,his training or I say the way he prepares for the game & normal day is just unexplainable with words but mostly with actions.He says all of this things that he does they are not in the mind,yet he puts more focus on what he does, because it's just entertainment you must have fun & enjoy. He also said he boosts his confidence by listening to music.

He mentioned that the experience was 'phenomenal' as he never played in a league before, inspiration of him playing basketball is brotherhood & unity in his team because they help each other with everything.Lastly being the MVP the feeling is amazing and he couldn't express himself further as he was overwhelmed.


Nthabiseng Tsweleng the MVP

Nthabiseng Tsweleng the MVP (Most Valuable Player) of the league the 28 year old lady from Seshego who is a student at Unisa doing her bridging course of Safety Management,spends her typical day jogging & practicing 2/3 times in preparation of all the games,she has 15 years in the basketball industry.

Reason she chose basketball as a lady is because of the inspiration from watching WNBA & acquire more skills,lastly "it's a demanding sport & different but I was also pushed to do well by my coaches Boyo Diketso & Khazane Khoza..."

On her expression of being the MVP she said "I feel honoured to be seniors MVP & it makes me to grow and improve everyday,so it's all about the hard work and dedication."

Tshepo Rakoma died a brutal death

Image: Social Media Kibi Josias Leboho who is 34 years old assertedly shot and executed his partner in the parking area of Polokwane at Shoprite Supermarket, on corner Grobler and Landros Mare Street 6th May 2021 (Thursday afternoon). Bullets perforated her body, she was found inside a motor vehicle in the parking area, it's avowed that when Leboho arrived at the shopping centre, an argument rose between them and he took a firearm and shot her countlesly, eventually she died on the spot. Thabang Letsoalo the Chairman of Polokwane Softball Association is very proud of the progress of teams because this initiative is all about developing teams in the communities and nurture their skills and talents for them to be better players.They are happy with the level of play and the improvement of the teams. Since the league has started there are no injuries from any teams, because all the teams have prepared very well, meanwhile Mentz Spartans lost their 2 games with mercy rule.  They hosted 1st playoffs on the 13th December and the game that was supposed to happen on the 16th was postponed due to rain, and 'the pitch was not playable'.They had playoffs on the 20th December last Sunday at Seshego. Match between Moletlane Texas and Seshego Raider s Limpopo Softball Association is yet in another season of Super League Campaign where "Fight for Survival" makes teams to toss and turn, as-well as shiver and mumble to be on top to qualify for the finals. This Super League has kick-started on the 27 December 2020, unfortunately due to restrictions of COVID-19 pandemic they had to pause a bit until resumption on 22 March 2021.
